CSU headquarters: Ban on patents on plants & GMO-free food production

CSU

Together with our member organisations AbL e.V. (Arbeitsgemeinschaft bäuerliche Landwirtschaft), IG Nachbau and BUND Naturschutz in Bayern e.V., as well as many other organisations, we took part in a joint campaign in front of the CSU party headquarters in Munich on 19 February 2026.

The alliance is demanding that the CSU vote in Brussels for GMO-free food production and for a ban on patents on plants.

At EU level, work is currently underway on a law that would open the floodgates to new genetic engineering and patents on plants. The law stipulates that there should no longer be any risk assessment for the vast majority of new genetically modified plants, no protection against genetic contamination in seed and food production, and no labelling requirements on products. The patent bans on new genetically modified plants and products demanded by the EU Parliament have not yet been implemented. All of this would destroy our valuable GMO-free conventional and organic markets and competitive advantages, as well as the future of diverse plant breeding.
