Actions against patents on barley and beer

2 and 8 October 2018 / On these days, hearings in regards to the oppositions against the patents EP2384110 and EP2373154 filed by Carlsberg/Heineken are held at the European Patent Office (EPO) in Munich. The patents cover the plants, the harvest, the process for brewing, malt and wort and all drinks produced by this method.

On this occasion, flags are distributed to the visitors of the Oktoberfest on October 2nd at Hackerbrücke in Munich and on October 8th in front of the EPO at Bob van Benthem-Platz 1 to raise awareness that patents on conventionally bred plants and animals are prohibited.

Stop Patents on Plants and Animals!

The member organisations of NO PATENTS ON SEEDS! are concerned about the increasing number of patents on plants, seeds and farm animals and their impact on farmers, breeders, innovation and biodiversity.
These patents are an abuse of patent law and put in danger the access to basic resources in agriculture and food production.

Therefore, we call for an urgent re-think of European patent law in biotechnology and plant breeding and for clear regulations that exclude conventional breeding, genetic material, animals, plants and food derived thereof from patentability!
